Job-Site container inventory and asset tracking

A mobile web application that tracks physical inventory and reusable tools stored inside job-site shipping containers.

Designed for field crews and operations staff at an industrial equipment business, alongside industrial painting contractor personnel who need real-time access to site supplies.

Unlike broad enterprise resource planning platforms that only report facility-level quantities, this application provides bin-level container maps, mobile barcode scanning, and separate tracking for consumable supplies and shared equipment.

The problem

Industrial job sites rely on shipping containers stocked with consumable blasting supplies, safety equipment, and reusable tools. Central business systems track broad location totals but cannot pinpoint specific shelving locations, track field tool checkouts, or support fast mobile cycle counts. As a result, field teams relied on manual counts, spreadsheets, and emails, leading to untracked consumption and unrecorded tool movements.

The solution

The team deployed a mobile-first web app tailored for phones and tablets used directly inside job-site containers. The system maps specific bin and shelf locations, enables barcode scanning for receiving and cycle counts, and manages tool checkouts. Role-based permissions allow internal staff full administrative control while granting contractor personnel read access to their stock levels and self-service tool tracking.

The goal

Provide accurate, bin-level visibility into job-site inventory and assets while replacing paper-based tracking with mobile workflows.
